For those of you who feel sorry for me, getting nibbled by insects in my quest to bring you an interesting Algarve walk… this is what came next.
It was surprisingly breezy at the coast that day, which gave me an opportunity to pull up a seat in a sheltered spot and watch the waves. Â You understand that I only did this to show you the diversity of the Algarve, not purely for enjoyment.
I can never sit still for too long and I soon needed to get a little closer to the action.
Armacao de Pera is far from being my favourite Algarve resort, but there’s a time and a place for everything.
What’s more Evanescent than a wave as it pounds the shore? Â But there is no doubt in my mind that I’ll be back for more.

That’s as near to perfection as a seaside place gets. I remember Armacao de Pera way back in the sixties (there now, you can guess my age) when it was that much maligned “typical fishing village”. I seem to remember that there was one hotel whose dining-room was their shack-restaurant on the beach where we ate the most fantastic fresh seafood – and custard tarts. From there we went to Sagres I remember, and stayed in the Pousada there, the most luxurious accommodation I’d ever hadl. I felt like a queen.

Ah, those were the days, Mari! It’s a bit soulless now, but you can’t detract from that beach in the off season. 🙂 🙂

The colours remind me of the Western Australian coastline Jo – also it looks quite windy and we get very strong sea breezes here lovely in summer and bracing in winter! The refreshments look most appealing too! 🙂

It was blowing a gale, Rosemay, which was a complete contrast from the still calm of the lagoon, where we were earlier. 🙂 🙂

I like being down by the sea when it is blowing a gale Jo – we often find we are the only ones walking down by the coast in the winter storms!!

I can just picture myself in front of that wine at the table watching you do all the hard work taking snaps, Jo! What glorious scenery xxx

The sun is shining brightly here in the north east, Sue. Not quite my Algarve but it’ll do to be going on with. 🙂 🙂 Sending hugs as I trip off to have breakfast in the garden.

I suppose someone has to do the really difficult and dreadfully demanding research that goes behind these blogposts 😉 (let’s blame the photo of the glass of wine…)

It might be gorgeously warm and sunny here in England today but I so wish I was on a deserted Algarvian beach with some Vinho Verde and a Pastel de natal – not only for the glorious views but for the tranquillity. The builders next door are cutting up concrete, dust and noise everywhere 😦 would go out but got work to do. Roll on our return to the Algarve too x

Oh bless you darlin! I’d forgotten about that. I was just lounging in the garden while Mick works. I am awful! X

The insects were at Sitio das Fontes and they were beasts but they are forgiven. This place was wild and gusty. The perfect antidote Paula xx

I’m not back in the Algarve till 11th October, Madhu. It seems a lifetime away but there’s quite a lot going on at home in the meantime. I’ll be there for 5 weeks next trip. It’s time to start rolling out the retirement plan. 🙂

Yes, it’s a beautiful place. I would not recommend Armacao because it’s an old style high rise town, even though the beach is superb. There are many lovelier spots. We were there that day because it was the nearest bit of coast to the country park we visited in the morning. 🙂

Where will you stay, Colin? I don’t much like this central part of the Algarve because it’s too developed, but if you wander a little you can find perfection. (or my version of it 🙂 )

Your description of the ‘high rise ugliness’ behind the beach sounds like my idea of hell (one reason why I would never go to Benidorm!) but the beach itself looks lovely, and that first photo is stunning 🙂

Off season any of these places are alright, Eunice, and the beaches spectacular, which of course is why they’re there. I don’t like to share and I could not make a home in Armacao, but Portugal needs tourism. It’s a poor country. But rich in beauty 🙂 🙂 Thanks a lot.
