Later that same day…

For those of you who feel sorry for me, getting nibbled by insects in my quest to bring you an interesting Algarve walk… this is what came next.

It was surprisingly breezy at the coast that day, which gave me an opportunity to pull up a seat in a sheltered spot and watch the waves.  You understand that I only did this to show you the diversity of the Algarve, not purely for enjoyment.

I can never sit still for too long and I soon needed to get a little closer to the action.

Armacao de Pera is far from being my favourite Algarve resort, but there’s a time and a place for everything.

What’s more Evanescent than a wave as it pounds the shore?  But there is no doubt in my mind that I’ll be back for more.

    1. It’s a wonderful bit of beach, backed by those lovely cliffs, Alison. The resort itself is really soulless, with very little of the old Algarve about it, but it is pretty close to the country park where we spent the morning. 🙂

  3. You begin with white wine, cold and crisp I hope and the sweet taste of a Pastel de nata, then follow up with soft golden sand with not a person in sight, a blue ocean and even bluer sky, a beach bar, palm trees and an impressive Agave! And then you say it’s not a very nice place!! Groan…
    You really do have a hard life. And I am not in the least bit envious.

    1. A tiny bit tongue in cheek, Jude, but I absolutely could not holiday there. That incredible bit of beach is backed by high rise ugliness. It caters for the masses and they’re welcome to it, but there’s a lovely little fortaleza on the front, and a good promenade. Blew away the cobwebs nicely. 🙂 🙂

      1. Ah, so there are some ugly parts of Portugal! I remember high-rises on the way down to the western Algarve, totally spoil the coastline.

    1. In the winter(or even late March 🙂 ) even the tacky tourist bits of the Algarve are beautiful, Tish. This is a prime example, contrasting totally with this week’s walk, which is why it’s here. 🙂 🙂

  10. That was one very full day,and you earned the luxury of taking that seaside break! Seeing those buildings so close to the shore made me think of the coastal erosion here in Ecuador…. who would have predicted that an earthquake would end that fight against the sea?

    1. An earthquake, a tsunami… who knows what the future might bring to some of the low lying ilhas offshore in the Algarve, Lisa?
      I’m so sorry, I still haven’t had a confirmation for Marco. My bank blocked the payment but I’m hoping it will be ok soon.

      1. Si; one never knows what’s around the bend.. I had a strong premonition several months before the quake, and I stated to friends, “What if Mother Ocean knows something that we don’t, and she’s trying her best to get you out of harm’s way?”

        Today I was with Marcos at the cemetery. He watched as I painted ‘soft’ flowers from ‘tomb one’ to ‘tomb four’ of his family as well as one above .. There are seven buried in that one ‘block’ and it seems insensitive not to give them all a touch of loving color.’ Tomorrow we’ll work on the names….

        Someone else was unable to send ‘out’ of her country, but someone from the USA was able to send with no trouble. A little co-op bank handles that MG option now, so he didn’t have to travel elsewhere.

  15. Thank you so much, for the sacrifices you make on our behalf. I really hope you will soon find time just to enjoy a walk for your own sake, but meantime, we all, I am sure, appreciate your efforts to bring we poor stay-at-home folk some small moments of pleasure!

    1. Appearances can be deceptive, Julie. 🙂 The sea was buffeting away and much of this resort is high rise and ugly, but it was quiet out of season. A nice contrast with my morning walk.
