A little something extra

A theatre in miniature

A theatre in miniature

I don’t suppose you were expecting this, and neither was I really!  My visit to Preston Park Museum was a series of lovely surprises.  I turned a corner to be greeted by a sign demanding CREATE!  Well, it’s not one of my strong suites, but I was quite happy to look.

Apparently Cleveland College of Art and Design had done some work for the reopening of the museum, and examples of this are on display.  A theatre made of cardboard cut outs was the chief exhibit.  My photos don’t do it justice but I thought it was enchanting.

Aside from the theatre, there was costume, millinery and pure quirkiness on show.  Creative, for sure.  It made me want to see more of the students work.

And lastly, six costumes designed for the Victorian Street.

If you saw Gracious living, Victorian style earlier this week you’ll know how much I loved the museum.  My next destination will be the Victorian Street.  Hopefully it won’t disappoint.  I’ve already been asked if there will be cake.  What self-respecting Victorian Street doesn’t have cake?

  1. Life size cardboard theater and yet these students put such life to it. What fun to actually see it. I liked the feathers and curls and all the other detail. Lovely, Jo. Has your daughter seen this, yet?

    1. I met her in York today, funnily enough, Lynne. It was their 1st wedding anniversary this week and they were having a few days there so I popped down to buy them brunch before they went home. She was ecstatic about Fairfax House so that’s on my list now too 🙂
No, she hasn’t but we’re guaranteed a trip next time she’s in the area.

    1. Wonderful, isn’t it, TBM 🙂 Sounds like a night to batten down the hatches! I’m just back from meeting my daughter in York and it’s fierce out there (and I’m on the lucky side of the country!)

  2. That is a creative, beautiful ensemble. I felt like I was in a dance ball with an enchanting music playing around me. The museum came alive through your words and pictures. Thanks. Wishing you and your family a wonderful, blessed day.

    1. It was quite big, Viv. The characters must have been about half my height and the theatre took up all of one wall. I wanted to climb right in 🙂
Off to see my lovely daughter in York this morning.(it was 1st wedding anniversary last weekend) They’ve been staying there since Sunday but are returning to Nottingham today. She was at the Quilt Museum and Fairfax House yesterday.

    1. I much appreciate your finding the time to visit me, Ventis. (and my understanding of Italian is slowly becoming a little better 🙂 )
It’s a beautiful, cold, crisp morning here and I’m going to meet my daughter so all’s well in my world. Hope that yours is good too. Big hug!

    1. That might be a problem, Cathy (the cake 🙂 ) By the way, I’ve asked Sonel if she could see all the photos on the other post and I’ll wait for her response before I do anything.
Quite excited because I’m going down to York to meet up with Lisa and Leo today (1st wedding anniversary was at the weekend) before they head back home 🙂 Big hug, Cathy. Keep up the good work.

      1. I hope you had a good visit with Lisa and Leo. Happy anniversary to them! Too bad about that cake; I would have liked to imbibe vicariously!

By the way, I guess you got my message that I can see all the pictures on the post now. 🙂

      2. I did, Cathy (get the message 🙂 ) and thanks a lot. Despite being a wet miserable day we had a lovely time. A long gossipy “breakfast” in “Betty’s” and I DID manage to get you some cake photos there 🙂 The only downside was that she didn’t receive her birthday and anniversary cards (including earrings I bought in Tavira) How come I can get a card to the States but not Nottingham!

    1. I KNOW she would, Jude 🙂 Funny you should say that- I’m off to meet her in York this morning. They’ve spent a couple of days there to celebrate the 1st wedding anniversary (not Venice, I know) and are heading home today. She was captivated by the Quilt Museum and Fairfax House yesterday.

      1. Nothing wrong with York – I love York (but then I am biased), never been to the Quilt Museum though. Sounds like I do need to head north this year. Safe travels Jo 🙂
