Normally when I’m out and about the camera has a mind of its own, and I follow along behind it taking the shots. Not so with this challenge. I took a couple of photos in the Algarve that I thought might “do”, but I was still looking for the right subject when I got back to England.
It had me crawling about on the conservatory floor, and rummaging in the bin, but don’t worry- I’ll spare you most of it. This was the final selection.
But even then I prefer it in colour, when it’s quite radiant. I’ll show you it someday (I dare not incur the wrath of Sonel. I’d hate to be banned!) But what I did enjoy was the process, and trying to look at things “abstractly”.
For a much more professional introduction to the theme, visit Sonel’s Corner. It’s always a delightful place to be, and she’s not really strict. I’m only teasing! You might even want to try your hand, but you need to hurry. There’s a new theme due out soon. I believe it’s Upward.
Excellent job .. in B&W – you have a creative eye and mind. My pick is … the foil. I would love to see the “curtains” in the color version. Love the movement in the materials in that shot.

It’s much better in colour (she says with a smug smile 🙂 ) It’s in my little ‘cheapie’ restaurant, O Xico. One of the things I’d like to do in that challenge is produce before and after shots, but I know Sonel wouldn’t approve. 🙂

Jo, these B&W’s are stunning…. how ever which way you manipulated them. Doesn’t take away from the fact the end product is fantastic!

Thank you so much, Tahira! That’s very kind of you to say 🙂

Wow, Jo! Black and white is tough but your efforts paid off! I especially love the last one of the flowershead as it focuses on the water droplets! Just Beautiful!

I just cheat, Zoe, and take them in colour, then convert. Not clever enough to do anything else 🙂

Hahaha! I doubt that very much but I love that you are so humble! 😀

How very imaginative Jo 🙂

The tinfoil you mean? I crawled around taking photos of chair legs too. I’m a strange woman at times 🙂

😀 I wish I could have been there to see that. You should see some pics of me while I am in action 😀

I love the flower shot, I’ve never tried shooting flowers in black and white but might have to give it a go!

I honestly and truly preferred it in golden colour, Lucy, but then I’m very much a colour girl. I occasionally do this challenge in support of Sonel because it’s a fairly new one and she is a superb photographer. Have you been to her site? She’s extremely good on the technical side and does tutorials etc. All I do is convert to B & W from colour. That’s about my limit 🙂

Dear Johanna I loved them, so beautiful. Thanks and Love, nia

The color version might be radiant, but these b&w’s are brilliant! I am so tempted to try this. I’m sure it’s not easy. Good work, Jo. 🙂

Glad you recognise the work of genius, Gem (doubles over laughing!) 🙂
Abstract is an interesting subject, which is why I took part, but normally all I do is look for the right candidate in my photos and convert it to B & W. No real skill and it feels almost like cheating.
Have a go! You know you want to 🙂

I just might – maybe. You are too modest. It takes choosing the proper pic for the b&w, and you did just that. 🙂

The tinfoil shot strikes me as a class act. I thought it was a glass at first, and then ice. I’m glad you put a caption underneath.

I was going to be all mysterious, Lorna, but I was never good at “hard to get”. I had some chair legs and things too, but enough is enough. 🙂

That’s our little cheap as chips local, Tink. We call it Fred’s because the owner always wears a flat cap (like Fred Dibnah). Most holidays find us there. 🙂

The flowerhead photo is beautiful, Jo. I also like the curtain in the Algarve. Takes me back! 🙂

Did we take you in Fred’s (O Xico)? I don’t think so. I took a few of his garden area and was quite taken with the light and pattern through the curtain. I was proud of the flowerhead, Cathy (but it’s still better in colour 🙂 ).

No, you didn’t take me to Fred’s, Jo, at least I don’t think so. When I say the curtain in the Algarve “takes me back,” I just mean anything from the Algarve takes me back. 🙂 I like the flower head in b&w, but I’m like you in that I almost always prefer color. But it is fun to experiment from time to time. 🙂

I want to fit in Cee’s challenge this week too, as it’s “knobs and handles” and I have some great ones of guess where? 🙂

Love the flowerhead Jo – wouldn’t be a clematis flower seed perchance? I could see this shot on my wall!

Suze, I like you more every day! Seriously, that’s a very kind thing to say, and yes it’s a clematis. It was the most beautiful golden shimmering colour. 🙂
