Christmas wishes

The lights are sparkling brightly in Tavira this year, my first ever Christmas in the Algarve. You have to be careful what you wish for. Last Christmas I shared the chaos in the UK, along with the hugs, kisses, love and laughter, before returning gratefully to my home here, vowing not to do it again. This year, deprived of family, there’s nowhere I’d rather be. But if we can’t be with them to share the hugs, nothing can stop us from sharing the love. That never changes. Thank you all for sharing it with me. On the eve of Christmas I’m counting my blessings, and wishing you a peaceful, happy Christmas, surrounded by love. In the end, that’s all that matters.

      1. Just the two of us but spent a lot of time phoning, texting, skypeing and emailing all over Australia, NZ and UK. It was a good day and probably made more connections in one day than we usually would and of course the weather was perfect.🌞

    1. A year and a half, Poppy. If you go back a couple of posts you’ll find I’ve lost a friend to Covid and a stepbrother to a heart attack in the past 2 weeks. The New Year won’t be better for everybody but I hope it is for you. God bless 🙂 🙂

  3. Lovely display of lights, Jo, and thanks for sharing these with us. Hope we shall all manage to spend next holidays with our families but meantime, memories are sweet and we are so lucky to have telephones, computers, zooms and what have you. My mother remembers when a her brother emigrated to America they never expected to see him again, that was what life was like back then, so we have it much better. Doesn’t help I know, when you are gulping back tears and yearning to have a hug from someone, but we’ll get by. Keep your spirits up, it must be soon over.

    1. Yes, people keep saying it’s just a day, Mari, but a couple we know have managed to get to see their daughter in Cheltenham, just for that one day. I wish we’d done the same. It’s been a busy and mostly fun week, but now we arrive at the Eve. I’m off to the kitchen to dry the pots and get that drink. Well, you did mention spirits 🙂 🙂 Merry Christmas, hon!

  4. Merry Christmas to you and yours. I gave in yesterday and went to hug two of my grandchildren for the first time since July. We did it as safe as possible outside with masks. Maybe a home made chocolate cake will lift the mood today
