Tina’s inviting us to choose our own subject this week, and I’m going with water. My star sign is Scorpio and, though I’ve never really seen the connection between that curly-tailed creature and water, I have to admit that I have a strong attraction to it. I’m never happier than when I’m on the beach, examining shells and listening to the sound of the waves. But if I’m not near the ocean, a river will do, flowing gently but with determination towards the sea. Or I can be calm and happy by the still waters of a lake.

In my Algarve home, in the south of Portugal, nothing lies between me and Africa but water. The sandbar islands that I love sit serenely offshore, lapped by the tide, each a world in miniature. The water flows out into the lagoon and beyond them to the ocean.

It’s no coincidence that I chose Tavira as my home. It’s supremely placed to take advantage of the water that laps its shores and runs through it. From across the water the offshore island beckons. It cast a spell on me from the very first time I saw it. The Rio GilΓ‘o flows softly out to meet it.

And out to sea
It’s a wonderful coastline, with plenty of places to play. I hope you enjoyed sharing it with me. Thank you, Tina, for giving me a choice.
There certainly is something very special about living near water. I’m glad you’ve found your happy place! π€

I couldn’t imagine living anywhere without being near water especially the sea. Actually, to date, we have always lived near the beach or a lake. Lovely shots of the beach Jo, very calming and everything seems to be alright after a beach walk.

I’ve always lived on the coast, too, Suzanne, and loved it. For most of my Polish family a visit to the sea was a once a year event, and sometimes they would prefer to go to the mountains. π π

You are so blessed to live near such gorgeous water!
And I do think of you with water – and coastal walks or seaside reflections – and that was also cool when you featured Frank’s sea reflections blog – right up your ally – or waterway I should say!
And love the photos you chose for the pick a topic this week

Love that first photo, and the very pink shells, particularly.
Scorpios and water? Scorpion-like creatures were very early adopters of life on land, 400 million years ago, give or take. Eurypterids they were. Wonder if thereβs a connection with your liking for water???

I love mountains too, Janet, but to be home they’d have to be the backdrop to water (how greedy is that! π )

See, I think being in the mountains with the water in front would be just perfect. π Guess we’d just be living in different places with the save view but reversed.

Beautiful pictures, balm for the soul. We had our sea-fix in Fife in October but Iβm missing it now itβs out of bounds again. We have our two rivers and the canal, but theyβre not quite the same.

No! I’m happy with a river in the short term, Anabel, or to follow it to see where it goes, but the sea is a whole different entity. Thanks, Anabel π π

Well Jo, we ARE kindred spirits. I too am a Scorpio (11/13) and I too am never happier than when I am near or on the water. No matter my choice of exercise each day – bike, run, walk, golf, you name it….I make a point of stopping by our beautiful beach to breathe in the air and enjoy the play of the waves on the sand. My only concern is that the predicted havoc of climate change may spell trouble for communities like ours. Hopefully our meager efforts to address it will have some positive impact. Your images are beautiful and a terrific reminder of why our cancelled visit to Portugal this year must be rescheduled when travel again becomes possible.
