Sadly we know about bush fires here in South West WA Jo. With the hot summers and winter rains that encourage vegetation growth, Mediterranean climates are very vulnerable to them . Must have been terrible for the poor folk up in the mountains – so much destruction in such a short time. Nature is amazingly resilient however and trees and plants regenerate over time but that will not help those who lost their homes or livelihoods.
It’s quite a remote area, Rosemay, yet not too far from some lovely villages, like the one we walked through. It must have been a nightmare for them, though everything looks so green now.
Am always amazed by the regeneration but the thought of those bush fires is terrifying as they move so fast. The people living up in those mountains must be brave and hardy souls!
