Something about the light

Almost every morning I climb the stairs to my roof terrace. I look out over the roof tops and salt marshes to the far horizon and catch my breath. Not from exertion, but the sunlight, glinting on the water, pierces my eyes and my heart. It dazzles me each and every time. There’s something about the quality of the light here. It illuminates my world, casting a spell, and I’m drawn to seek out the heavens, reflected in the water.

Somewhere that I can lose myself for a little while, hiding from a reality I’m powerless to change. Where sky meets sea is my escape. A lightening of heart, even when the spirit is low. The light changes with the hour, brilliant at midday and softer as the afternoon fades.

Some of these places are denied to me right now, but I know that they’re there, quietly waiting.

Thanks, Amy, for sharing your beautiful light.

  1. Enjoy your beautiful illumination, Jo. It looks so warm. Could use some of that right now. I’ve got sun, but a cold wind.

    1. It does! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Chafing at the bit in some respects, but still happy with all that we have. Long online discussions with Algarve friends marooned in the UK yesterday. The travel plans are burgeoning, but locally till Autumn. Some are faster out of the traps than others πŸ™‚

    1. It’s a beautiful panorama from my rooftop, Terri, but I can only get close to some of it. We worked and waited many long years for this privilege, and Covid has tried so hard to ruin it. Feeling sad that hugging my kids is still a long way off. But yes- I know I’m lucky πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  2. I’ve been a bit under the weather lately, so falling way behind on everything (including blogging), but I’m so glad I got to see your gorgeous cloud. That first shot is stupendous!!

  3. I am spoiled for waking up to beauty, but with those beautiful water, clouds and blue sky, I might just have to move in with you instead. There is nothing more relaxing than a pool of quiet or gently moving water. So gorgeous, Jo. You will be out walking all sorts of places before too long.

  4. How wonderful to start your day with such views. so much light in our world now as hope comes in large waves with the vaccine roll out. Dave was able to book his appointment for this weekend. I feel like we should celebrate! Hoping there the vaccine is rolling out as well. Thanks for sharing your beautiful views Jo. Ours are still quite snow filled but the grass is trying valiantly to peek though.

    1. Caught me at a bad time, Sue. No sign of vaccine here before autumn and thus my chances of going to the UK before then have diminished. I had hoped to help out in the summer holidays. Our Easter flights, as expected, have just been cancelled. The views are all I have to cling to.
